2015 Tournament Information

Golf Course: Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club’s par-71, 6,839-yard Ghost Creek layout was crafted by Bob Cupp in the “old” style, leaving the Portland wetlands terrain completely natural. This Portland public golf course is subtle and cunning, featuring a variety of distinct and equally memorable holes framed by lush stands of trees, dramatic mountain vistas and ragged wetlands. The phantom Ghost Creek materializes throughout the golf course, adding to the layout’s stunning beauty.

Just one month after opening in 1992, Pumpkin Ridge received the unprecedented honor of being named the host site for the United States Golf Association’s (USGA) 1996 U.S. Amateur Championship. “We created Pumpkin Ridge for the game, and the USGA epitomizes the game,” said Marvin French. A slew of accolades and golf championships have followed. In its inaugural year, Golf Digest named Ghost Creek the “Best New Public Course in the U.S.” and Witch Hollow the “#2 Best New Private Course in the U.S.”

Four years later, in 1996, Tiger Woods brought notoriety to Witch Hollow when he won his unprecedented third consecutive U.S. Amateur Championship. Many golf observers consider the 36-hole final, between Tiger Woods and Steve Scott, to be the greatest match-play confrontation in the last half of the 20th century. Another spectacular record-book finish came during the 1997 U.S. Women’s Open Championship, where crowds of more than 110,000 packed the gallery as Alison Nicholas defeated the favored Nancy Lopez.

In 2000, Pumpkin Ridge made history once again by hosting the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship and the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship, marking the first time in 22 years that these two events had been held simultaneously at the same location. Numerous other prestigious amateur and professional events have been held on the two courses since then, including the 2003 U.S. Women’s Open Championship; 2006 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship; and the LPGA’s 2009, 2010 and 2011 Safeway Classic

NAGA Tournament: The tournament will be a 54-hole stroke play event. The overall winner must play from the Championship tees. All players have the option to play from the Championship Tees including Ladies and Seniors for all 3 days. In the event of a tie for the Championship (Men/Ladies/Seniors) there will be a sudden death playoff. All other ties will use a card-off process in accordance with the USGA guidelines.

Senior Tournament: The Senior tournament will also be a 54-hole (Please note it has been changed to three days) stroke play event. Seniors (50-59), Super-Seniors (60-69), and Super-Super-Seniors (70+) will play from the designated White Senior tees. The Super-Super-Senior participants will have the option to play from the red tees to compete for their division title only, but will not be eligible for the overall senior championship.

Clarifying competing for both championships: If a Senior, Super-Senior, or Super-Super-Senior wishes to play for the overall NAGA tournament title they must play from the championship tees for the duration of the event. If a Super-Super-Senior wished to play for the overall Senior title they must play from the gold tees for the duration of the Senior event.

Eligibility: All NAGA members and Associate members. The field will be limited to 120 golfers, with consideration given first to life members, and then those members who are current with their 2016 NAGA dues.
