Notes from the President

Happy New Year from your WAGA Board! We hope everyone has a healthy, happy and prosperous 2008.

The Western Amputee Golf Tournaments are complete for 2007. As president I was able to make most of them. The turn out, all in all, was pretty good. Arizona in April, California in June, the Regional in Colorado followed by Washington State ending with the last one in northern California . Please continue to check the website for tournament dates, applications and perhaps an additional tournament.

Next year we are scheduled to have three… Arizona , the Regional in California and ending our season in Washington State .

Fred Pears in Antioch , CA would like someone to take over the running of the tournament and help collect money. If someone will step forward that would put a fourth tournament on our schedule. Remember this is your organization so if you want to have another tournament someone needs to step up to the plate.

WAGA needs your help to attract new members. The next time you go to the golf course ask the pro if there are other amputees that play here. When you visit your prosthetics also ask if they have any golfers that may be interested in joining us. Get their name if you can then call and invite them to join us. If you are involved in the community like support groups and other organizations please see if you can stir up interest. Remember you can make a difference…large or small.

If you see an amputee introduce yourself to him/her. That may be what it takes to get them in a positive mood. The next time you go to your prosthetics ask them if they know of someone that needs help…golf, swimming or anything. It is your responsibility to make it easier for others. We have years of education stored up so get out and spend some of that knowledge and help someone. Remember before you help someone accomplish something you must expect it of your self first.

If you have any ideas on how to help WAGA, what you would like to see at the next golf tournament, items important to you that we have not addressed please call or email us.

Remember that we need your help to become bigger and better. Do not forget about our First Swing Clinics as this is also a great way to help new amputees.

If you are not a life member please send your 2008 renewal dues ($20.00) to WAGA, % Craig Van Kessel , Secretary, 15051 W. Deer Valley Drive Apt. #133, Sun City West, AZ 85373. Any don ations from Life Members are greatly appreciated.

In closing if anyone would like to be on the board, help with a golf tournament, collect don ations for WAGA or an article for our web site please contact any of our board members.

Remember to be positive, have fun and you will make a difference.

WAGA is your organization, make yourself proud of it. Check the website for next year's tournaments.

Keep it in the short grass,

Don Bigler
President
