8th Sacramento Amputee Open,
June 9-10 , 2007

The 8 th Sacramento Amputee Open is attracting more and more normies. This year we had almost as many normies as amputees. Most were amputee's family or friends signed up as best-ball partners.

Fourteen amputees competed in both individual stroke play and 2-man best-ball with normie partners. Mike Lorenz and partner David Lorenz won the team event on Saturday with a net score of 63, tying with Williams/Reynolds. Scorecard tiebreaker went to the Lorenz team.

amputee winnersAmputees comprised one flight, normies a separate flight, both receiving trophies for 1 st and 2 nd places. Championship flight winners were 1 st Place Mike Lorenz at 143, and 2 nd went to John Loya at 146.

President's Flight (normies) 1 st Place to Mike Giddins, 2 nd Place to Jeff Bell. Jeff's father, Stan Bell, is a long-time WAGA member, now unable to play. Stan made an appearance at the luncheon after golf on Sunday.

Low Gross winner was Curtis Baker, of Glendora , CA with a score of 79-78=157. Low Net Champion was Bob Cox, of Mariposa , CA with a net score of 143.

All appreciated the assistance of Chris Wicks, who could not play due to an injury. He replaced Craig Van Kessel as all-around player assistant, committee member, MC, and raffle director. Also thanks to Dorothy Trevethick for her assistance with registration and scoring. Dorothy has been our scorekeeper for the past 4 years.

WAGA's player points program, determining Player of the Year, began in 2004. Players earn points for participation and performance. John Loya is currently leading by 4 points.
