13th Western Washington Amputee Open - 2014
13th Western Washington Amputee Golf Classic
Kent, Washington – August 2,3 2014
Under the beautiful, majestic Mt Rainier 63 golfers took part in Ed Wilson’s Annual Amputee Tournament, August 2,3 at the Riverbend Golf Complex in Kent, Washington.
Due to the lower participation, the golf course required tee times instead of shotgun start. Also new was the advent of “tee it forward”, senior players teeing from the forward tees. The next day, they moved back to the white tees, and the kids (not seniors) moved to the 2014 Groupblue tees.
The first day dawned with sunshine and enthusiasm with all the golfers and of course Ed and his host of volunteers were there to take care of all the golfers needs. The course was in good shape and once all the golfers completed their rounds, we met at the local pub for a chicken dinner and raffle.
Once again, Ed put on a very successful tournament and I encourage you to participate in it in 2015. After all, there is “No Mountain High Enough” to stop amps!!
Danny Stevens, Portland, won low gross honors with one under par 145. Double arm amputee Jim Taylor, and long time participant here, won low net with 122, scoring a net 22 under par! Jim golfs with two arm prosthetics, one with a fitting to hold the club securely.
